    Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation

    Business Administration (3 positions)
    Role Overview: Assist the Bureau Commander and three Human Resources Managers with editing departmental Standard Operating Procedures and Post Orders for grammatical congruency. Support internal stakeholders by conducting research into workflows, turnaround timelines, and creating key performance indicators and performance measures.
    Skills Needed: Strong writing and editing skills, research ability, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, interest in public relations and business administration.

    Department of Solid Waste Management

    Civil Engineering (1 position)
    Role Overview: Support the Engineering group with project management activities related to the design of buildings and infrastructure. Assist in advancing departmental organizational goals.
    Skills Needed: Interest in civil engineering, project management, and infrastructure design.

    Department of Transportation and Public Works

    Bus Operations – Administration/Operations (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist the Special Projects Administrator 2 with reviewing administrative documents related to bus and rail operations. Responsibilities include conducting research, attending meetings, and processing administrative transactions (training, procurement, financial). The intern may also assist leadership with presentations and other relevant administrative tasks. Transportation is required for site visits.
    Skills Needed: Strong organizational skills, research ability, interest in transportation operations and administration.

    Budget & Finance - Accounting (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist the Budget & Finance Division with accounting functions such as reconciliation, reviewing departmental budgets, and preparing fiscal reports with supporting documentation.
    Skills Needed: Accounting knowledge, attention to detail, analytical skills, proficiency in financial software.

    Construction (1 position)
    Role Overview: Support the Transit Construction Section with tracking construction projects, preparing reports, and ensuring accurate supporting documentation for accounting activities.
    Skills Needed: Interest in construction management, project tracking, and financial documentation.

    Marketing/Social Media (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist in designing and developing graphic materials, conferring with stakeholders to identify project requirements, and preparing presentations and reports.
    Skills Needed: Graphic design proficiency, marketing knowledge, ability to develop creative concepts.

    RBCM Division - Accounting (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist the Division Chief with tracking operational expenditures related to roadway, bridge, drainage, and canal maintenance. Process vendor invoices and prepare budget and expenditure reports.
    Skills Needed: Accounting knowledge, budgeting skills, proficiency in financial tracking.

    Strategic Planning and Performance Management Division - Information Systems (1 position)
    Role Overview: Support IT project planning, execution, and monitoring within the department. Responsibilities include gathering data, preparing reports, updating project documentation, identifying risks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
    Skills Needed: Project management, data analysis, proficiency in Microsoft Office, problem-solving skills.

    Emergency Management Department

    Emergency Management (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist with preparedness planning efforts, development of educational materials, and outreach programs to enhance public awareness of emergency preparedness. Participate in training sessions and meetings.
    Skills Needed: Interest in emergency management, communication skills, ability to develop outreach materials.

    Internal Compliance

    Accounting/Finance (1 position)
    Role Overview: Support departmental financial reviews, compliance assessments, and performance analysis. Responsibilities include data gathering, analysis, and reporting in accordance with County standards.

    People of Internal Operations Department

    Security Operations (1 position)
    Role Overview: Gain experience in all facets of Security Operations, including the Security Operations Center (SOC), security technology systems, and physical security obligations county-wide. Assist with uniform procurement, radio cataloging, drafting reports, security inspections, and operational tasks.
    Skills Needed: Interest in security operations, detail-oriented, ability to manage multiple projects.

    Procurement (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist the Procurement section with reviewing and preparing purchase orders, contracts, and bid documents. Track allocations, prepare reports, and support process improvement initiatives.
    Skills Needed: Procurement knowledge, attention to detail, organizational skills.

    Seaport

    Civil Engineering (1 position)
    Role Overview: Support the Capital Development Engineering Team at PortMiami with infrastructure projects, CAD/GIS tasks, design reviews, site inspections, and construction management.
    Skills Needed: Civil engineering background, CAD/GIS proficiency, ability to interpret technical drawings.

    Water and Sewer Department

    Construction Contracts (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist with analyzing project bidding processes and developing procurement reports. Gain experience in government purchasing, process management, and electronic systems.
    Skills Needed: Background in procurement, data analysis, and government purchasing.

    Hydrogeology Engineer (1 position)
    Role Overview: Support fieldwork and data analysis projects related to groundwater sampling, well drilling, GIS mapping, and groundwater modeling.
    Skills Needed: Geosciences background, proficiency in GIS and Microsoft Office, data analysis skills.

    Utility Plants Engineering - Data Analysis (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist with project planning, data analysis, report preparation, and field inspections for water/wastewater utility operations. Gain exposure to infrastructure projects.

    Wastewater Collection and Transmission Line - Operations (1 position)
    Role Overview: Assist with processing monthly vehicle reports, verifying account codes, and maintaining operational records related to wastewater collection.
    Skills Needed: Attention to detail, data entry skills, interest in wastewater operations.

    The City of Miami is seeking passionate Naturalist Apprentices to join our team at Simpson Park. Interns will welcome visitors, lead educational programs, and assist with fieldwork and habitat restoration.

    Location: Miami, Florida

    Description

    Performs various administrative and clerkship duties for the assigned department. Frequently contacts are made with judges, Clerk of the Courts, Administrative Office of the Courts, State Attorney, Public Defender, private attorneys, law clerks, state and local law enforcement, witnesses, bailiffs, criminal justices, social service professionals and the general public. Work is often of a sensitive and confidential nature. The Volunteer/Intern must observe high standards of conduct. Work requires independent judgment and is performed under the general supervision of a Judge or Attorney.

    Responsibilities

    • Managing the Judge’s court and professional calendar coordinating and scheduling motions, pretrial hearings, trials, conferences, and committee meetings; maintaining trial dockets, continuances and trial orders; assisting attorneys with procedures on filing motions and hearing dates.
    • Provides organizational support for the judge’s caseload, including preparing orders, docketing
    • jury instructions and a list of pending cases; ordering jurors; and coordinating in-house services, such as interpreters.
    • Reviews case files for accuracy, format compliance and completeness before scheduled hearings.
    • Acts as the Judge’s liaison to assist and inform litigants, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and witnesses concerning court procedure and policy.
    • Screens telephone calls and visitors to the judge’s office; provides information, resolves issues, directs caller/visitor to proper personnel or agency, or takes messages.
    • Performs routine clerical tasks such as reviewing, distributing and responding to incoming mail; performing data entry, ordering office supplies, maintaining files/records, faxing or photocopying.
    • Composes and/or edits correspondence, memorandum, directives, notices, orders, e-mails, and other documents observing strict confidentiality.
    • Researches information on hearing dates for other agencies; prepares notices of hearings for cases put on the calendar by the judge.
    • Interacts with attorneys and litigants and their family members to resolve problems such as scheduling conflicts or other case-related issues.
    • May conduct limited case law research using an electronic database such as LexisNexis.
    • Performs related work as required

     

    Physical Demands

    Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds or more. Position may require significant amount of standing, lifting, sitting down and walking.
